I loan because:
I don't loan on KIVA anymore - it used to change someone's life, now it's just a way for a micro-lender to get cheap money to lend. KIVA does not check the loans (vet them) anymore. KIVA lets the field partner (micro lender) decide who the loan goes to and what for. I emailed KIVA about 4 different 6 month loans for Televisions for home use in Peru saying "This is not Pedro" (the guy in the KIVA video whose cow dies). The response was KIVA doesn't decide on what loans to sponsor the micro lender does. There are some loans on KIVA that do make a difference, but I was having a harder and harder time finding loans that were for loans to change people's lives. As far as 6 month loans to buy a television for home use, seems to me someone could save up the money for 6 months to pay for it instead of getting a cheap loan; especially seeing how they had a job. Buy hey, if a cheap loan is possible I don't blame them, I would do the same thing. However, they are not getting my money to do it. Yes I know, I choose who I lend to on KIVA, but so many loans are for wants and not necessities, I got tired of wasting my time. So I will be stuck at 78 countries supported, 242 loans made and $6,075.00 lent on KIVA. Bye, KIVA.
