A loan helped a member to purchase inventory for her clothing store, which supports her training to become a dental hygienist.

Mujeres Emprendedoras San Pedr Group's story

Antigua, Guatemala is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with its well-preserved Spanish Baroque influenced architecture and many colonial churches. It is a large international town with visitors and residents from all over the world making tourism the base of the economy. Just outside the town is a neighborhood called Aldea San Pedro Las Huertas that is well-known for the cultivation of potatoes, carrots and other vegetables. The Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mujeres Emprendedoras San Pedr” or “The Enterprising Women” is located here. The seven ladies in the group are involved in various commercial ventures including shoe sales, textile businesses (clothing for both men and women), tamale sales and a convenience store.

Aura is a young, single 20 year old woman who is determined to be successful with her clothing business. She sells modern clothing for women, men and children. With the income from her businesses, she is able to cover her educational costs. She is studying to be a dental hygienist. Actually, she is about to finish high school. Aura is requesting a loan that she will use to purchase additional inventory for her store. It is especially important at this time of year with year-end parties, graduations and holidays.

All the women in the Trust Bank look forward to their monthly meetings when they make payments on their much-needed loans and then participate in educational trainings. Friendship Bridge calls the combination of small loans and education “Microcredit Plus”. A different subject is covered at each meeting and the women are very anxious to improve their personal and business lives.

Aura and her 6 friends in the Trust Bank appreciate the kindness of Kiva lenders as they strive to empower themselves and eliminate poverty in their lives. They also want to take this opportunity to wish all investors blessings and prosperity in the New Year!
