A loan of $1,000 helped the purchase of an inventory of spare parts.

Justice Kwame's story

Kwame A. is a half-owner of J & K Engineering, a truck and automobile repair shop in Pokuase, just north of the city of Accra on the Achimota Highway. He has a wife and three children and lives in the neighboring town of Ofankor. As a child, Kwame walked two miles to school each day. He completed middle school, went on to a five-year engineering apprenticeship, and then worked three years at Big Joe Engineering in Ofankor before he struck out on his own.

In twelve years, J & K Engineering has grown to a thriving business with 11 apprentices and a contract to repair all of the DAF trucks and buses used by Ghana's Education Department. Kwame is on call to travel all over Ghana at a moment's notice, whenever there is a breakdown, and he is known for his ability to restore battered vehicles to better than new! Having to travel into Accra for spare parts is very time-consuming, and Kwame plans to use the $1,000 to purchase and maintain a parts inventory, reducing his time away from repairing vehicles and training his apprentices.
