Domitila T.'s story

Señora Domitila T. A. R. is 54 years old and lives in the San Luis country house in the district of Salpo, in the province of Otuzco in the region of La Libertad in Peru.

She was in school until the second grade and left her studies as her parents became ill and didn’t have the financial means to keep supporting her. Domitila does not have any children and dedicates herself to making shoes. When she got married she decided with her husband that she would start her own business which has been very profitable and is now 28 years old. In times of harvest she also sells cereals and gruel - her sales take place at her home.

With her first loan for 300 soles which she received from her communal bank, “Mujeres Trabajadoras” (“Working Women”), she purchased materials for shoes. With the loan for 2500 soles, which will be paid off in 4 months, she intends to increase her capital for buying materials for the fabrication of shoes.

Domitila’s big dream is to buy a car and a motorbike.
