A loan of $650 helped to procure bags of flour and ingredients and expand her baking business.

Naomi's story

Naomi Obema is married and a mother of seven children: two boys and five daughters. The first born is in the senior high school while the rest are in the junior high and the primary schools. One of them is currently learning a trade. She is 41 years old. Naomi lives with her children and husband in a rented apartment in a small farming community called Nkwateng in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

The major occupation of the inhabitants, the men in particular, is farming. Naomi, however, is a baker. She bakes bread and supplies it to the retailers and food vendors (beverage sellers) in her community. She also hawks to sell some of the bread. She procures her goods from Kumasi and Nkawkaw at cost-effective prices. Naomi has been in business for three years. She says she wants a loan to buy the materials in bulk and expand her business. It is her dream to help her children to have access to a good education.
