A loan of $1,000 helped a member to buy fruit and vegetables and grain.

Aminata's Group's story

We are from the eco-village of Carabane which is in a very isolated area of the Casamance River delta. Our eco-village is very poor because of the conflict that reigned for a long time in this part of the country and also because of the wrecked ship, which used to ensure the link with the continent. Since then, we have lived in absolute poverty while trying to lift ourselves out of it with the few means we have. We have therefore come to request a loan from Kiva to be able to market seafood products, grain, and fruit and vegetables that are produced here and that we’ll be able to buy from growers for resale in the big cities. The seafood and woodland goods that are produced on the islands are highly sought after on the continent. The sale of these goods in cities will enable us to buy grain and various home items that we’ll be able to resell in our area and on surrounding islands.
