A loan helped a member to buy three sheep and a bull.

Bassine's Group's story

This group of three members belongs to the Banc Villageois which was created on 29th December 2010. It is made up of women from the same village and surrounding areas, who get on well together and are very supportive of one another. They are mainly active in small trading businesses or raising animals.

Mariama, who is standing on the right of the photo with her left hand raised, is the star borrower of the group. She is married, 35 years old and mother to three boys and a girl. She raises animals and with the loan she receives, she is planning to buy three sheep and a bull. The three sheep will cost 125,000FCFA and the bull 200,000FCFA. She is also buying food for her livestock to a value of 57,500FCFA and finally will pay 20,000FCFA for vetinerary expenses. The balance of the loan will constitute her working capital. Once she resells the sheep (at 175,000FCFA) and the bull (300,000FCFA), the profits she makes will enable her to build up her savings at the Banc Villageois and also acquire other sheep for her flock.
