Luz Esperanza's story

Mrs. Luz Esperanza belongs to the "Picota" Communal Bank and lives at Block Nº 6, Jr. San Martin in the District of Picota in the Department of San Martín. She is married and is 45 years old.

Motivated by her husband, she started her first business with S/. 100.00 [USD$33], selling newspapers, books, bibliographies and comic books.

At present, she sells cosmetics from the Avon line of products; she has a shop in her own home where she offers her stocked products to local clients.

With the loan of S/.1000.00 for which she will pay over a period of 6 months, she will invest in buying products like perfumes, colognes, body and foot powder, deodorants, and the creams that are ordered by catalogue. In this way she can offer her clients better prices than her competition. She will also buy school supplies such as books, pencils, erasers since the schools are now in session.

She makes the earnings decisions in her business. On a personal level she feels more sociable, more sure and responsible with her loan payments.

Luz Esperanza expresses her appreciation to Manuela Ramos for allowing her to grow as an entrepreneur and as a woman.
