Toussaint

Porto-Novo, Benin / Electronics Repair

A loan of $900 helped to buy electronics equipment.

Toussaint's story

Born in 1955 in Abomey, Mr. A. Toussaint lives in Porto-Novo, the administrative and political capital of Bénin. Toussaint is the father of six children, of whom four are in school. He is an electronics technician and has made this trade his principal work. It brings in the revenues that help him to earn his living. Since electronics is a field requiring significant means, he lacks enough funds for allowing him to satisfy the large number of customers he has. To make his workshop more competitive, so as to satisfy his customers better, he’s requesting a loan.

Alidé means “there is always a path for the poorest” in Benin’s local language of Fon. Benin is a small West African country located next to Nigeria and has a per capita GDP of $1,500. Alidé offers special loans to highly vulnerable people at an interest rate of 0%. It is part of a group that is soon launching a micro health insurance program for micro-loan recipients.
