Sokhorn's story

Mrs. Sokhorn S., 32, and her husband , Mr. Savoeun Un, 36, live in a small village across the Mekong River about 20 kilometers from Phnom Penh. They have been married for 12 years and have two children: one son and one daughter. Their daughter is in grade two.

Sokhorn has been a silk weaver for nine years, a skill she learned from her neighbor. She sells her finished products to the middleman in the village who then takes them to sell at the market in Phnom Penh. Mr. Savoeun Un has been a construction worker for fifteen years. Sokhorn is asking for a loan of US$ 600 to purchase silk materials for her weaving business and to build a bathroom for her family.
