A loan of $950 helped to purchase new products in bulk, including notebooks, pens, pencils, and cardstock.

Sonia's story

Sonia S. C. is a member of the Tesoro Escondido (Hidden Treasure) Village Bank and lives in the Department of San Martín. She is 37 and has two children who are still dependent.

On her own initiative she decided to take out her first loan, for 500 soles, to open her own business. She has been working with the Village Bank for 5 years.

She still sells groceries, and with her loan of 3,000 soles, which she will pay back in 6 months, she'll stock her business with school supplies by the hundreds, including notebooks, pens, pencils, and cardstock, that will be in high demand as the school year begins.

It's Sonia who decides how to use her business's income and now she feels more empowered as a woman, communicates better and has more pride in herself. She is more responsible with her payments and makes her own decisions.

Sonia is very appreciative of Manuela Ramos for allowing her to grow as a businessperson and a woman.
