Georgina's story

Georgina A. is fifty-one years old. She is married and has given birth to two children: both females. She says her first daughter is married while the other is currently in junior high school. Her husband is a palm nut and cocoa farmer. Georgina lives with her husband and second daughter in a rented apartment in a small farming community called Nkwateng in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The major occupation of the dwellers, the men in particular, is farming. Most of the women, however, are into trading activities and palm oil production.

Georgina produces palm oil out of palm nuts. She procures palm fruits from nearby farms and adds these to what she harvests from her husband’s farm. She distributes to customers who come to buy in bulk and for retail. Georgina wants a loan to procure palm fruits in bulk so that she can produce the oil in bulk and distribute to the increasing number of her customers. Georgina aspires to give her children the best education.
