A loan of $525 helped to buy hairdressing materials and fashion accessories.

Regina's story

Regina H. is 25 years old. She is not married. Regina lives with her younger sister in a rented apartment in a community called Nkwaateng. Nkwaateng is in the Eastern Region of Ghana. A sizable number of the inhabitants are engaged in farming activities. However, quite an appreciable number are also involved in trading and other business activities.

Regina is a hairdresser by profession. She does both plaiting and perming. Regina says she graduated from the apprenticeship training four years ago and has since trained in hairdressing five young ladies who have started their own businesses. She has a small store close to the local market. Apart from hairdressing, Regina also sells plastic materials like bows, spoons, plates, etc. She displays them on a small table top in front of her salon.

She believes the loan assistance would enable her to buy hairdressing equipment, fashion accessories and artificial human hair and also pomades and other material she will need to serve her clients satisfactorily. She hopes to increase her income to enable her to save more to support her son’s education.

Regina is a member of the Happy Trust Bank group. Members of this group guarantee for one another as social collateral to access the loan and support themselves in handling repayment of the loan.
