Blanca R.
Blanca sells dresses, perfume and cosmetics door to door, mostly in offices. She is 45 years old and has two university-aged daughters. She doesn't have a shop, but is what in Bolivia is called a "runner". She sells on credit, showing customers pictures of the goods in magazines or catalogs and delivering them the same day, or at least within 24 hours, then collecting her own pay every fifteen days. This is the third loan she has taken out through IMPRO and she has a first-class record of repayment. This loan will pay for her daughters' university education because she is the only earner in the family. She is eligible for this loan on the strength of her work and credit history, and she will be able to repay it.

Additional Information

IMPRO is a small non-profit organization that has been offering micro credit to the working poor in the Bolivian cities of La Paz and El Alto since 1995. IMPRO’s goal is to fight poverty by offering loans to small business owners who cannot access credit through the regular banking system due to a lack of guarantees or collateral.

To ensure that everyone has access to credit, IMPRO maintains a low interest rate by minimizing operational costs. IMPRO’s partnership with Kiva, which began in 2007, has allowed IMPRO to expand its services while maintaining these low interest rates.
