Cipriana is a native member of the rural community of Ccolcca, in the province of Quispicanchi-Ocongate, which is located 3,900 meters above sea level. It is 4 hours by bus from the city of Cusco, Peru.

Cipriana is 66 years old and balances her household activities with farming. She is a single mother of 6 children—her youngest, who is 9, still lives with her and attends the only school in their community. She grows different kinds of potatoes and peas, which she sells in the town of Ocongate, an hour away on foot. She also dehydrates the potatoes to create a new food product called chuño.

Cipriana is very grateful for the loan and is committed to working and being productive in a short amount of time in order to repay her loan. She is conscious of the fact that this bank is the only one that has come to her community to offer some kind of working capital.
