A loan helped to purchase more seedlings, fertilizers and other farm inputs.

Cynthia's story

Cynthia is 38 years old and lives in Wedza District in eastern Zimbabwe. She has been actively volunteering in and out of schools for the past 15 years as an early childhood development teacher and community health officer. Cynthia strives to improve the well-being of her community. She has had a tobacco farm for the past three years. Her long-term commitment to her community led her to employ four people on her farm. The business has enabled her to survive financial hardships and is critical to her financial security. Cynthia’s business is doing considerably well. She used her first Kiva loan to purchase fertilizers and chemicals for her crops. With the profits she purchased tobacco seed and maize seed to increase production for the next season. She managed to start construction of her house with the profits. She is grateful for the loan and hopes to get a second larger loan to expand her farming business.
