In this Group: Moch, Chan, Thorng, Nay
This group of borrowers consists of four members. Its leader, Moch Mom, is 46 years old and a mother of six children. Two children are married and live separately, and the other four attend school. She is a widow and sells charcoal throughout the commune. Another income of hers is renting rooms. Mrs. Mom owns a numbers of rentable rooms which are full of clients as her house is located next to the market. She is a good mother and a responsible neighbor with a net income of $ 5 per day.

Mrs. Mom recently rented another shop for her business. She is looking for a loan to buy charcoal for her new shop. The other three members in this loan group are: N., 38, who sells traditional cakes in the market, is looking for a loan to buy more cake baking supplies. S., 47, who owns a grocery store is requesting a loan to buy a motorbike for her business. And H., 40, who sells sweets in the market is requesting a loan to invest and expand her business.

About HKL

Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
