A loan of $775 helped a member to buy a new donkey cart.

Anees Zulfiqar Ali Group's story

Anees baji has lived in Vehari, Pakistan for the past 10 years. Anees baji is an uneducated woman because she comes from a poor family and her parents couldn’t pay her educational expenses. Anees baji is married to Z. A., who delivers construction supplies from his cart, which he transports from one place to another. He has been doing this work for the past 5 years. Anees baji is applying for a loan to buy a new cart because his old cart has become rough.

She is the leader of a group of women in her locality. Raseesa baji wants a loan to buy lentils, cooking oil and spices for her food business. Nazia baji and Raeesa baji each want a loan to buy groceries for their grocery shops. Shakeela Rani baji wants a loan to buy an auto-rickshaw (a local three-wheeled motor vehicle).

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.

Note: "Baji," which means "older sister," is a term of respect for women in Pakistan.
