A loan of $475 helped increase her stock.

Elda's story

Elda is 48 years old and lives with her husband and two sons, who help her in every way they can. The house where they live is their own. Her business is the sale of second-hand clothes, which she also takes to sell at a hamlet which is two days journey by boat away on the Ucayali river. It's a very self-sacrificing job because of the long hours spent travelling and transporting her merchandise. She sells her garments for cash and sometimes by barter, exchanging the clothes for products such as bread, bananas, yuca and maize among other things. She had been doing this work for the last three years, and enjoys it, because although the journey by river is very tiring, it also de-stresses her and helps her to dream of a better future, as well as passing through other closer hamlets.

Her business is profitable because her clothes sell like hot cakes! When she arrives, all her customers approach to observe the garments she is selling, which gives her hopes that in the future she may be able to have a clothes shop. This is her fourth loan from MFP and she likes working with her community bank very much. She will invest the money she has asked for in buying second-hand clothes: she also wants to try and sell shoes.
