A loan helped to buy organic manure, organic coffee plants, organic pesticides and other materials needed to convert his coffee plantation to organic.

Joaquín Armando's story

Joaquín Armando is 45 years old and works producing coffee under various certifications like Free Trade and Rainforest. He is married to Ana Hayde with whom he has two children who he is responsible for. They work together to get their family ahead. Their only goal is to provide the best that that they can for their children

Joaquín wants to join the organic certification program run by COCAFCAL of which he is a member. The production of certified coffee is something new in the region and novel in that it allows greater profits for the coffee and also helps to protect the biodiversity of the region.

At this time Joaquín wants to convert one hectare to organic production so he needs to buy a variety of materials such as organic manure, organic coffee plants, organic pesticides and pay for labor with the extra profits from his organic plot. Joaquín hopes to improve his family's living conditions.

A loan will help Joaquín to convert his plot to organic production which will allow him to have fixed markets for his coffee at higher prices and will provide sustainability to his coffee growing.
