A loan of $975 helped to buy various goods.

Fatoumata's story

Ms. Fatoumata, age 51, lives with her husband and children in the Hamdallaye district of the city of Koutiala (third administrative region of the Republic of Mali). Not having had the chance for academic brilliance, she dropped out of middle school to embrace work in commerce. After having tried several types of work, she ended up choosing commerce in a variety of goods twenty years ago. She is much appreciated and in high demand by Koutiala women.

To meet the needs of her customers suitably and to expand her business, Ms. Fatoumata turned to the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso three years ago. After four group loans (solidarity loans), all repaid without difficulty, she is on her first individual loan.

With this loan, she intends to buy various goods in Bobo (in the Republic of Burkina Faso). She sells her goods retail at the grand marketplace of Koutiala, cash or credit accepted, to women customers, essentially.

She is counting on a monthly profit of 150,000 francs CFA that will be used to repay the loan, to help cover daily expenses of the family, and to invest the rest in her business.
