A loan of $925 helped repairing her motorcycle taxi and investing in her store.

Cruz's story

Cruz is 49 years old, married, and lives with her 4 children in her own home. She is the owner of a motorcycle taxi, and makes a living managing this business and selling candies and meals outside a school near her home during the academic year. She has had her motorcycle taxi for the past 2 years, and her son makes his living driving it and transporting passengers. This business generates income that helps Cruz improve her home, and for that reason she is very pleased with it. Besides, she considers it worthwhile, since she employs her own son to drive the motorcycle taxi and look after it properly. She eventually wants to purchase another motorcycle taxi so that she can achieve her goal of increasing her family’s income. Cruz has previously taken out loans from Kiva partner MFP on 12 separate occasions; she likes the work that her communal bank does because it is very responsible. She wants to use the money she is requesting to have the ‘tool of her trade’—her motorcycle—repaired, which will cost approximately 600 Peruvian soles. Cruz plans to use the rest of the money to have a kiosk built outsider her home, to purchase candies, and to set herself up with cooking utensils and supplies for when she begins preparing her meals in the coming months.
