A loan of $4,175 helped a member increase her stock from 300 to 500 chickens.

Mrangi Rangi Group's story

Mwanahamis K., age 51, is married with five children ages 28, 23, 20, 18 and 16. She has a chicken business. She started this business in 1996 and works daily from 5:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. She is able to earn a monthly profit of around $150.

This will be Mwana’s third loan from Tujijenge Tanzania. She used the previous loans to increase her stock from 300 to 500 chickens and has repaid all of the loans successfully. She now hopes for a third loan to open a café to sell snacks and tea.

Mwanahamis will share this loan with her loan group, Mrangi Rangi, which has 21 members. The members of the group hold each other accountable in paying back their loans. In the picture, Mwanahamis is 1st on the left in a pink dress.
