A loan helped to buy a Zoona-branded kiosk and provide the funds needed for her to start operating her mobile money transfer business.

Ethel's story

This is thirty-four-year-old Ethel. She is married and has two children. Ethel is requesting a loan from Kiva in order for her to set up her own mobile money transfer business at one of the busiest bus terminals in Lusaka, the capital city of Zambia.

Ethel's business will provide financial services such as sending and receiving of money and bill payments. She says the business will benefit her community, as they will be able to transact at their convenience and save on costs because they will not have to travel long distances to access financial services. She is very happy with the opportunity to start running her own business and access working capital finance through Kiva. She explains that accessing loans in Zambia is a major challenge because of high interest rates.

When Ethel receives this loan, she will be able to set up her business by purchasing a branded kiosk and having the funds needed for her to start serving people. She looks forward to starting to operate her business. This loan will change Ethel's life, as she will be able to earn extra income and provide for her family's needs.
