A loan of $925 helped buy fertilizer and insecticide.

Margarita's story

Margarita is 40; she has been living with her life partner for 25 years and she has 5 children. With her partner, she tends several hectares of fruit trees and a smaller area under coffee; January to March is the harvest season, and they try to earn as much as possible as capital for their next crop.

Margarita gets up at 6.00 a.m. to attend to the house. Then, around 10.00, she prepares lunch for her partner and herself. This is the time of the citrus harvest and there is a lot of demand since it is summertime in the capital city; winter is the time of the banana and avocado harvests.

Margarita likes farming as it is very profitable at certain times of year, enabling them to pay for their children's education and cover other household expenses. Margarita is very active in her community bank; in the last period she acted as controller, overseeing the procedures and management by the other group members.

This is her fifth loan from MFP; she has always repaid her loans promptly. The loan will be used to buy fertilizer and insecticide to enhance the fruit crop.
