A loan of $625 helped purchase banana plants.

Lauro's story

Lauro is 38 years old and has been separated for two years. He lives alone in a rental house. His three children live with his ex-wife. Working the soil and caring for plants is part of his life. Since his childhood he has carried out these jobs, but last year he wasn't able to do the planting he wanted because of an increase in fertilizer prices. The price rose to 215 soles per sack where it had been 60 soles. Because of this difficulty, the money he had for that investment was not enough to cover the cost. Since then he has felt a little distressed. But now that the fertilizer prices are at 95 soles he his happy again, and his desire to farm has returned. He plans to plant two hectares of bananas. His marital problems affected him a lot in the beginning, and he occasionally missed work because of his drinking, but now he is feeling more motivated. In time, he hopes to become a great farmer. This is his fifth loan with MFP, and he has always collaborated in all of the activities that his communal bank offered. He has always been responsible about making his payments on time. He is requesting money to buy banana seedlings. Since he is planting two hectares, he will need two thousand plants.
