A loan of $250 helped buy merchandise such as clothing and fruit.

Elvira's story

Elvira is a member of the Communal Bank "03 de Mayo," in the El Collao province of Puno. She is 24 years old, has no children, and has completed her secondary level education.

She has worked with Manuela Ramos (a Kiva partner) for a year, and her business sells fruit and clothes (sweaters, aprons, blouses, etc.). Her first loan was for 500 Peruvian Soles, with which she purchased merchandise for her business (fruit).

With this loan of 800 Peruvian Soles, which she promises to pay back in 5 monthly installments, she will acquire a variety of merchandise, preferably clothing items (seasonal sweaters) and fruit (grapes, watermelon, etc.), all of which she will sell in the local fairs in Ilave. Her wish is to have her own store with stocked merchandise (clothes, fruits, artifacts, etc.), with which she can support her family (her parents) and help herself in her studies.
