A loan of $800 helped a member to buy dry fruits to sell.

Yasmeen M.shafiq Group's story

Yasmeen baji, 39, resides in Arifwala, Pakistan, where she is married to M. Shafiq, who has operated a dry fruit business for the past 10 years. The mother of five daughters and one son, all attending school, Yasmeen baji helps her husband by selling his dry fruits in the community, earning a good profit for the family. She previously repaid her first loan from Asasah (a microfinance institute in Pakistan), and is now applying for a new one to buy more dry fruits to sell. Yasmeen is a group leader of three other women in her community:

Zarina baji wants a loan to buy vehicle wheels to sell;

Munawar baji is requesting a loan to purchase cosmetics to sell;

Ameeran baji wants a loan to buy seasonal fruits to sell.

The funds for this group loan will be distributed among the members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members guarantee one another's loans, so if one does not repay, the others are responsible.
