Mrs. Pheun Khoem Village Bank Group's story

The village bank consists of eight members and is located in Trapang Kor village in Kampong Chhnang province. They plan to use the loan which they obtained for different purposes. Mrs. PheU. K. is the village bank president who has been selected by the members. She is a seller a mall restaurant that sells rice soup. Her husband, Mr. Noup Suth, is a musician who has been hired by the people to perform at wedding ceremonies, parties, and others events. Even though they try to work hard, they still earn too little income to build a new house for their family. Thus, Mrs. PheU. K. has decided to ask for a loan so that she can build a house for her family. She is a 54-year-old mother of three children, two of whom are employed in garment factory while the other helps the mother’s business.

Two members in this group loans are end-of-term loans and the rest have monthly payment loans. They are not required to pay any principal on the loan until the very end of the loan term. End-of-term (EoT) loans are AMK’s main product because it is the most beneficial to Cambodia’s poor. It allows them to repay portions of the principal whenever they are financially able to. Most clients start to make payments many months before the end of the loan term. Almost all of AMK’s clients make their payments on time. AMK has a delinquency rate of only 0.09% and AMK has a default rate of 0% on Kiva.
