Mapinduzi Group's story

Shakila O., age 30, is married with two children, ages 15 and 18. She sells juice and bites. She started this business five years ago and works daily from 8am until 11pm. She is able to earn a monthly profit of around $207.

This will be Shakila’s sixth loan from Tujijenge Tanzania. She used the previous loans to increase the stock and improve her cafe and has repaid the loans successfully. She now hopes for a sixth loan to open a pharmacy.

Shakila will share this loan with her loan group, Mapinduzi, which totals 20 members. The members of the group hold each other accountable in paying back their loans. In the picture, Shakila O. is in the back left in a dark dress.
