A loan of $400 helped to buy clothing and jewelry.

Thérèse's story

Thérèse K. is 55 years old and married to Archile ASSIGNANME. They have three children named Aurelien, Jeanne, and Léa. It’s been thirty years since she started selling pagnes (traditional Beninese clothing) and jewelry. Currently she also sells mobile phone cards and shoes. Loan income has enabled her to buy a motorbike, which she rented out each day to a taxi-moto driver, who then reimburses her. In the future, she would like to start selling pagnes and jewelry wholesale.

Alidé means “there is always a path for the poorest” in Benin’s local language of Fon. Benin is a small West African country located next to Nigeria and has a per capita GDP of $1,500. Alidé offers special loans to highly vulnerable people at an interest rate of 0%. It is part of a group that is soon launching a micro health insurance program.
