A loan of $300 helped to buy cosmetic products.

Gisèle's story

The meaning of Alidé in the local Fon language of Benin is, "there is always a path for the poorest of people." Benin is a small country in Western Africa, bordering with Nigeria, where GDP per capita is $1,500. Alidé (Kiva Field Partner) offers special loans with 0% interest to highly vulnerable people, and belongs to a group that is soon to launch a micro health insurance program.

Gisèle A. is 36 years old and is married to Firmin Anago. They have four children: Frida, Purderria, Doriane and Naomie, all of whom have attended school. Gisèle has been a hairdresser for ten years and she also sells cosmetic products. Her other loans have allowed her to increase her business activities, and in the future she would like to start buying her goods wholesale.
