A loan of $525 helped to procure bananas.

Akua's story

Akua K., 55, is the widowed mother of five children - four boys and a girl. Her daughter has completed junior high school and is currently learning a trade, hairdressing, while the boys are still in school. She lives with the children in a rented apartment in Koforidua, a small town close to Offinso in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

Akua works very hard to provide for her children as a seller of bananas, purchasing the unripe commodity from farmers in nearby villages and then selling them after ripening to retailers in the local market square. In business for three years, she dreams about saving enough money to support her sons in school, so she is requesting a loan to procure bananas in bulk in order to maximize her profit margin.
