Bernadette's story

Ms. Bernadette D. is from EKPE, a small village in Ouémé County. She is 30 years old and never attended school, though at an early age, she was placed with a tutor in Cotonou and helped her with selling various goods: fresh eggs and pagnes (colorful West African cloth). After a few years, she left her tutor for her mother in the countryside and remained there until her marriage to Mr. Celestin AZOGA. Today she is the mother of three children, one of whom is in school. With financial help from her husband and mother-in-law, she got started on her own selling: charcoal, condiments, vegetable oil, red palm oil, and gasoline. She is requesting a loan to bolster her business.
