A loan helped to build a latrine.

Mao's story

Mao, 51, lives in a community of Kandal Province, Cambodia. She is a lovely mother of five children. To make a living and support her family, she operates a farming business on a small rice farmland which is located near her house. So far, she has been in this type of business for around ten years. On average, she is able to make an income of USD 5.00 a day.

Mao wants to improve the general living conditions of the entire family by having a latrine to use, because there is no latrine in her house now. Therefore, she is borrowing a loan from Kiva to build a latrine. By doing this, she can help her family members gain access to sanitation, promote their health, and help to lessen environmental deterioration. She is thankful for the loan granted through HKL with a much lower interest rate than other general loan products.
