Ambe Anna's story

Anna N. was married to Fuh Geofred and had four children. She is now divorced from her husband due to matrimonial problems. She is a very hard-working lady from childhood as she has proven beyond doubt in managing and taking care of the kids despite the hard and harsh nature of her husband that caused them now to be apart. Being a businesswoman, she had been working hard and taking care of the children as concerns their school needs and other necessities for them even before her divorce.

This is her fifth time requesting a loan from GHAPE. Her previous loans have been well managed and utilized. The most recent one was used for embroidering dresses and bed sheets, poultry and pig farming. Anna has confidence in this business because there is a high demand for foodstuffs and goods that are imperishable last for a long time. She promised to used the profit from the loan in educating her children and buy a plot for herself and increase the management capital.

The Grounded and Holistic Approach to People's Empowerment (GHAPE) is a non-profit NGO based in Bamenda, Cameroon. GHAPE works towards the empowerment of the poor and poverty alleviation through a highly multi-faceted approach. Every client is trained in business management, basic health, life skills, financial management, profits and losses, and family values. Clients are also required to contribute a small amount into a personal savings account; most clients save much more than the minimum requirement. GHAPE instills a sense of family and community in its clients and staff and a strong bond of trust has developed between the organization and its clients.
