Mrs. Sovanna Tien Village Bank Group's story

This village bank loan group consists of eleven people and is located in Trapeang Saom village in Takeo province. Mrs. Sovanna T. was selected by the members to be the village bank president. Mrs. Sovanna T. is 29 years old and the mother of two children. The eldest attends school and the youngest is only two. She is a rice middleman who buys rice to keep in stock and re-sell later at better price. Her business is going well, so she is requesting a loan to expand her business and increase her income. Her husband, Mr. Pon Reasmey, is a farmer who owns 2-hectars where he cultivates rice.

Two members in this village bank loan have end-of-term loans and the rest have monthly payment loans. The two clients are not required to pay any principal on the loan until the very end of the loan term. End-of-term (EoT) loans are AMK’s main product because it is the most beneficial to Cambodia’s poor. It allows them to repay portions of the principal whenever they are financially able to. Most clients start to make payments many months before the end of the loan term. Almost all of AMK’s clients make their payments on time. AMK has a delinquency rate of only 0.09% and AMK has a default rate of 0% on Kiva.
