Esther's story

Esther O. is forty-six years old. She is married and has given birth to four children, three boys and a girl. Currently, Esther says three of her children have completed junior high school, while the last is still in elementary school. She is also taking care of her late sister's three children. She lives with her family in a family house in Offinso in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Offinso is a farming and commercial community.

Esther works hard to support her husband in taking care of the family. Her husband is a farmer. He cultivates maize, plantains and other food stuffs in the community where they live. Esther sells fresh yam in the local market square. She procures the tubers of yam from the farmers in the surrounding villages. Esther has been in this business for eight years now and is full of experience. She also distributes the yam to some food vendors in her community. She wants a loan to buy tubers of yam on a large scale so that she can distribute to more customers and so increase her profit margin. Esther wants to help her children and those of her late sister to further their education after completing junior high school.
