Zainabu's story

LOAN USE: To buy enough cell phone airtime to provide to all her customers

Zainabu is a 23-year-old mobile phone businesswoman, volunteer teacher and entrepreneur, living with her parents in the Rufiji District.

As a volunteer Camfed Learner Guide, Zainabu teaches life skills to students in her local secondary school, including lessons on effective communication and personal confidence. On top of this, Zainabu always likes to help her parents with their farming, as well as work as an agent of Airtel Money and M-Pesa trading in cell phone credit transfer.

As Zainabu lacks the capital to provide for all thirty of her customers, some of them have slowly decided to move to other agents.

Zainabu is now asking for a Kiva loan to buy more air time to stock her transfer account. If she is chosen as a loan recipient, Zainabu believes she will make enough profit to make her repayments and balance her daily budget.

The interest on Zainabu’s “social interest” loan will be repaid through her weekly two and a half hours of volunteering, which are so valuable for Camfed’s younger students.

Zainabu gives thanks in advance to Kiva and Camfed.
