A loan of $450 helped to buy wholesale supplies for her business.

Demesia's story

Demesia is a very hard-working person, and her aim is to be able to support and educate her six children. She has always found a way to earn a living working from whatever means have been available. Before working at the business she now runs, she sold groceries for one season and later vegetables. Seeing that the vegetable business was not profitable, it occurred to her to put a small restaurant in her house. For two years and with the help of her younger daughter, she has been offering 'caldo de gallina' (chicken soup) starting at 6 p.m. Little by little the business has been growing so that it's been possible to buy the necessary furniture to serve the customers well. Thanks to her work she takes care of the household food, her husband by her side, and keeps up with the home expenses. Within a few months she would like to open and inaugurate one more restaurant at another locale. Right now she is looking into how much this may cost.
