Zenie C. is 39 years old, married and has 3 kids. Her husband is a motorcycle driver. They admit that living with only the income from driving is difficult. Education for her children is also an expense that they have to suffer. Zenie thought of opening a store on their doorstep. It's a matter of "diskarte" (strategies) on how to live life. One has to work hard and make sacrifices. Zenie and her husband really take care of their business. The populated area around her store is what gives her the edge over other stores in the area. They hope that Paglaum MPC will always be there for them in times of need. To put up a decent home and children established with their own field is a dream come true for the C. family.
About Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative
Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) was founded in 1992 by the beneficiaries, parents and staff of the Paglaum Community Development Foundation to address economic and livelihood activities for sustainability. The organization operates in the northwestern provinces of Mindanao and Visayas.
In the local vernacular, “paglaum” means “hope.” The initial foundation is dedicated to child development through a holistic approach. The goal is to build self-reliance and expand opportunity so the poorest of the poor can help themselves.
