Preoung C. is 20 years old and single. She has been orphaned, as her parents passed away a long time ago. She currently lives with two siblings; all of them are single (brother and oldest sister). Her oldest sister is employed as a garment worker at Will Best Factory in Phnom Penh City. She now makes a living working as a garment worker for a factory with her oldest sister. She currently gets a salary of $90 per month. Recently, Ms. Preoung C. hopes her brother has a suitable business to invest in; thus, she would like to ask for a loan to buy a motorcycle. The motorcycle belongs to her brother to use as a taxi. (She and her brother are pictured.)
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
