María Elena's story

Maria Elena E. V. is 55-years old and lives in the Victor Larco Herrera district of Buenos Aires, in the Trujillo province of La Libertad, Peru. She studied to become a social worker until her parents became sick and she had to abandon her studies. She does not have any children.

Maria provides word-processing and printing services. She started her business typing for family and friends; over time her work became known and she now has many customers. With her profits she bought a printer and updated her computer with new programs. She works from home.

With her first loan of 300 PEN that she borrowed from Las Palmeras community bank, Maria invested in bond paper and printer ink cartridges for her business. With this loan of 1,200 PEN, which will be repaid in 6 months, she will purchase bond paper, ink cartridges, and photo printing paper. Maria dreams of having a photocopy and printing business, and of traveling to Cuzco.
