Yeng S. K., 45, is married and currently lives in Prey Chor, Kampong Cham province about 120 miles southeast of the capital, Phnom Penh, with her husband, two of her children, and her elderly mother. She and her husband Chhum Seang Hean, 58, together work their rice field and raise fish to earn a living and are able to make a combined amount of around US$ 5 a day. Besides doing this work, her husband is a government teacher in the village. He has been teaching since 1980.

Yeng would like to take out a loan of US$ 1000 to help open a mechanics shop for one of her sons who lives outside the family home. This son is already married and currently is about to start up a garage but needs capital to run this business.
