A loan of $400 helped she wants the loan to buy baking materials like bags of flour, sugar, margarine, yeast and firewood.

Dorothy's story

Dorothy O. is 30 years old. She is a single woman with no kids. She lives with her family at Babiani in the Western region of Ghana.

For the past four years all Dorothy has been doing is baking bread. She says though it was difficult in the beginning she now sees changes in her business growth. She says she gives the best value for money by making sure that her food quality meets her customers' expectations. Her customers book their order in advance and before they come it is ready. She also retails to individuals for their morning breakfast.

She says the price of commodities is increasing which is making it difficult to buy more raw materials from the market. The daily demand for bread is high. She says she bakes at most 500 loaves of bread in day. Dorothy needs the loan to buy more bags of flour, sugar, margarine, milk and firewood. She is in a community group called Ebenezer trust group. We visited her when she was busily serving her customers.
