A loan of $650 helped purchase plantains, cassava, beans and plush toys.

Santos's story

Ms. Santos is a member of the “Mujeres Emprendedoras” (Enterprising Women) microfinance institute. She lives in the San Martin region of the province and district of Moyobamba. She sells produce such as plantains, legumes, cassava, vegetables and peanuts. Her business is located in the city’s central market, where her customers go everyday. With this 2,000.00 PEN loan, which will be repaid in 6 months, she will purchase plantains by the bunch, sacks of cassava, sacks of an assorted variety of beans, and plush toys that are in demand this season because of the year-end festivities.

Santos is a 58-year-old mother with 9 children who are all independent. She now lives with her husband and one of her daughters, who helps her with the business. She is grateful for the support she has received from Manuela Ramos, which allows not only her business to grow, but also those of the other working women.
