A loan of $975 helped a member to purchase farm inputs for market gardening.

Boundou 2 Group's story

The members of the group BOUNDOU 2 are married women, who average 32 years of age and four children each. All the women live in polygamous families in Bandiagara (5th administrative region of the Republic of Mali). They are collaborating with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to carry out their farm work for the end of this rainy season. They are on their 2nd loan with the institution.

The crop grown is essentially onions, as is the case with Ms. Fatouma, the woman sitting first from the left in the photo. With her loan, she intends to pay for seeds and fertilizer.

After the harvest, the produce is sold to men and women customers in the villages of Wadouba and Bandiagara. She plans on making a profit of 22,500 francs CFA at the end of the planting season. This profit will enable her to help out her husband in covering family expenses and to provide food, schooling, and healthcare for the children. The rest will be reinvested in her business.
