A loan helped to pay for forage for feeding the livestock, special forage for hens and renovation of the barn.

Sofya's story

Sofya is an experienced farmer from Vedi town in the Ararat region. She lives with her husband two sons and retired mother-in-law.

She is self-employed in her agribusiness. Sofya, with the help of her family, keeps livestock of two calves, hens and turkeys and cultivates tomatoes as the only source of her family’s income. Sofya's husband and son help her by selling the tomatoes in the local market.

To continue the cultivation of the tomatoes, the family needs to invest some financial resources. They particularly need a loan of USD 2,500 to pay for forage for feeding the livestock, special forage for hens and renovation of the barn. As this is Sofya's first loan, it has been approved within the framework of the new joint initiative of Kiva and SEF. The first-chance loan program provides loans to people who didn’t have access to credit products before because they have no credit history.

Sofya and her hardworking family will be grateful to the lenders for helping them to collect the loan amount, which will greatly impact their agribusiness and their lives in general.
