Abena O., 51, is married and has six children. Two of her children are married and living with their spouses, and the others are still in school. She is a very resourceful wife and mother who works hard to support the family. Abena supports her husband in providing for the household by selling used clothing. Selling used clothing is a very big business in Ghana because brand new clothing is too expensive for the poor. Abena wants to use the loan to buy more bales of used clothing to increase her inventory. She believes this loan will help her save for her children’s future education and also allow her to rent a permanent store. She belongs to the community group called “Kristo Tease” (Jesus lives) Trust Group. Her picture was taken at a group meeting. In this group, members provide social collateral for one another to guarantee the repayment of loans.
