Rhina Esther's story

Rhina is a member of the Loreto Community Bank, located at 398 Comandante Suárez Lane in the Callería district of the Coronel Portillo region of Ucayali. She is 46 years old and a single mother to three adult children. She used her first loan from Kiva's partner Manuela Ramos to invest in selling soft drinks. The loan was for 300 Peruvian nuevos soles (approximately US $98). She has been working with the bank for two years. She currently makes a living from driving a motorcycle rickshaw, which her son helps her keep in good repair. With this loan of 3,000 nuevos soles (US $975), to be repaid in five months, she will purchase two tires, a set of shock absorbers, and other rickshaw parts. She will also upholster the seats and fix the motor. Rhina is happy because, thanks to the support of her community bank, she has her rickshaw.
